Systems Administrator

Systems Administrator (HFX)

Lixar is looking for a Systems Administrator to join our Halifax Team.

As a key contributor, you will help Lixar support internal and external clients. The ideal candidate will be a committed professional who has a strong sense of self and strives for perfection.

What you will be doing:

  • Participate with infrastructure design and deployment
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date infrastructure monitoring, documentation and diagrams
  • Design and deploy solutions to solve problems or implement new services or features
  • Contribute to research and development of technical solutions
  • Perform application, desktop and server troubleshooting / support
  • Assist in application configuration and troubleshooting of production issues for multiple vendor teams
  • Coordination and participation on incident management calls
  • Proficient with the managing systems and applications:
  • JIRA, Confluence, Stash, and SVN
  • Cisco, Juniper, HP, Oracle Pillar and pfSense products
  • Web server installation and support
  • Scripting (Perl, Shell, PHP, Groovy, etc)
  • Database support (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle)
  • Virtualization technologies (VMWare, Proxmox)
  • Google Apps for Business

As an experienced Systems Administrator, you must have:

  • Exceptional communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively within a development team and with clients
  • Experience with building and administrating Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, including:
  • Windows 7/8, Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu and Mac OS
  • Windows Server Experience
  • Experience with a medium sized fast moving software development company
  • Experience with administrating application servers including:
  • Tomcat, Glassfish, jBoss, and .Net
  • Experience using and understanding of TCP/IP networks, servers, VPNs, firewalls
  • Experience with root cause analysis, testing and debugging, network issues
  • Experience with monitoring systems: Zabbix, Cacti, Observium
  • Experience with interoperability between Unix and Windows LDAP/Active directory
  • Experience with planning and installing office network cabling
  • Proven attention to detail and commitment to quality

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience working in a small company where team work is paramount
  • Experience with Code Versioning, Code Management
  • Proven experience with XML
  • Familiarity with Web Services
  • Experience in Agile development and / or Continuous Deployment methodologies
  • Experience with cloud based platforms: Azure, AWS, Google App Engine, OpenStack
