Lixar music stages set to pump-up runners at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Lixar, an Ottawa-based technology leader in next-gen mobile, data science, IoT (Internet of Things), and cloud applications is partnering with Run Ottawa to bring more local music to runners and spectators at the 2017 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend.

“At Lixar, we know how much both music and fitness add to the quality of life of our team and our communities,” said Bill Syrros, Lixar’s CEO. “We saw race weekend as an opportunity to bring these together, while supporting our vibrant local music scene.”

With Lixar’s support, Run Ottawa has added more music stages along all course routes to pump-up runners. Lixar has made it a priority to present a diverse and dynamic range of local musical talent.

A main Lixar Stage is being placed at Frank Street and the Queen Elizabeth Driveway so that all runners, regardless of distance – 2K, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon – may benefit. Programmed by local festival MEGAPHONO, the main Lixar stage will showcase featured emerging local artists to the crowds that cheer at that location, while energizing runners for their home stretch.

“Runners love to hear and see live music during their race. It can add fuel to an already great run or help to focus on something other than the run during a tough patch,” said John Halvorsen, President of Run Ottawa and Race Director of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. “Our partnership with Lixar will mean more local music and more awesome atmosphere for our runners and spectators.”

But Lixar isn’t just bringing the music. They’ve also challenged their staff to get on the starting line for the HTG Sports Ottawa 5K on Saturday.

“Being active is an important part of our company culture,” said Syrros. “What better way to symbolize that than get everyone together for a fun 5K and celebrate with great live music along the way?”

Lixar Presents: The First MEGAPHONO Artist Retreat Winner

Lixar is proud to present the winner of the first MEGAPHONO Artist Retreat!

MEGAPHONO's Jon Bartlett, Trails, and Lixar CEO Bill Syrros

After captivating the imaginations of the Lixar staff, MEGAPHONO delegates, and the audience during her performance at St. Alban’s, we are incredibly pleased to announce Trails (Allie O’Manique) as this year’s winner. Trails awed the crowd with her unique lyrical and musical talent by peacefully serenading us with loops of her soothing voice, dreamy electric guitar, and larger than life stage presence.

Trails - Winner of the Megaphono artist retreatThis weekend she will be recording exciting new material at Port William Sound with fellow musician and producer Jonas Bonnetta.

Through the Artist Retreat, Lixar and MEGAPHONO intend to help provide emerging artists like Trails with creative support when producing, recording, and writing music.

Here at Lixar we believe that music and creativity contribute to making cities sustainable and vibrant places to live. MEGAPHONO attracts music professionals from both Canada and the United States by offering a first-hand look at Ottawa’s thriving music scene and all it has to offer. Starting off with a performance from Juno nominee Kalle Mattson in our headquarters, MEGAPHONO brought three days of music; and nine artists showcased by Lixar.
Trails Performance
Over the past few months, Lixar’s staff has been participating in Play With Heart, an initiative to connect music to our community and give back. Kicking off with MEGAPHONO, we had the opportunity to play games of basketball and volleyball against the Boys and Girls Club, go skating, and more. All funds raised went to Centerline Studios in Halifax, and the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa.

As a part of the community, Allie will give a performance at the Boys and Girls Club’s Don McGahan Clubhouse to help support their music program.

Congrats, Allie! We look forward to seeing where your career will take you!
