Coach Smart is a legend in the Canadian coaching community. Over the past 13 seasons, he has led the Ravens to 11 national championships – this year he is taking a sabbatical from the Ravens to help the national men’s basketball team reach the Olympics.
Coach smart has earned the Stuart W. Aberdeen Memorial Trophy as CIS Coach of the Year a record six times, as well as nine OUA East Coach of the Year distinctions. He was also the assistant coach of the Senior Canadian Men’s National Basketball Team that finished 3rd at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City, Mexico.
Why would a tech company invite a basketball coach to speak at its event?
“Tech and sport have a lot of synergies,” said Emmanuel Florakas, Lixar President. “Everyone at Lixar is looking forward to learning from Coach Smart and his many successes.”
Perhaps the biggest commonality between tech and basketball is pace. Like technology, game pace is fast. On the court, winning comes from understanding, anticipating and trusting instinct and intuition. Pre-game practice, knowledge and experience allows for the right game-time decisions.
Like basketball, technology only wins with the right team and the right coaching direction. Each player is valuable and has an important role to play. Supported by the right coaching (or tech) vision, strategy, and attitude many successful outcomes do become possible.
