The 2019 Polaris Prize will be announced tonight, and we couldn’t be more excited. Hosted by CBC Music’s Raina Douris, this evening’s event will feature a celebration of stellar artists who are shaping the Canadian music scene. The winner of the grand prize will receive $50,000 from Polaris, and each of the 9 runners up will get $3000, respectively, courtesy of Slaight Music.
Lixar is a very proud supporter of Polaris, not only because it honours creative excellence in Canadian music, but because it awards musicians based on artistic merit and their unique perspective on the Canadian experience.
We’re also thrilled to be announcing the winner of the Lixar & NMC Polaris Artist Residency. One lucky Polaris nominee will be awarded a five-day stay at the National Music Centre in Calgary, Alberta. They’ll get access to NMC’s state-of-the-art facilities, a recording engineer, and a legendary music collection. The residency will culminate with a performance and an album pressing, courtesy of Lixar.
Stay tuned for this evening’s event, and help celebrate culture and Canadian music together.
The artists up for the 2019 Polaris Prize are:
